Letter From The Commissioner

Dear AYSO Family,

I am writing to address the concerns that many of you have about the confusion in the spring session schedules, fields, teams and referees. Let me reassure you that this is not common practice for AYSO Region 862.

My sincere apologies about the schedule change and mix ups for the teams and would like to THANK YOU!! for your patience and understanding. Please know that we are working diligently to solve these problems and I am certain that we will remedy that situation for next season. We have identified the loss of communication and will be back on track for next season.

I would like to take a minute to address the concerns about referees in all 6 communities of Region 862. We have 40+ teams that need a Referee every week and only field about 20 Referees for them. This makes it very hard for Referees to cover all games endless they are doing 2 or 3 games a day. In the future we will be requiring each team that is U10 and above to have a team Referee to referee their teams’ home games only. The best place to learn about the game of soccer and watch a game is on the field. I Referee myself and have heard many people in the audience coaching and making calls so I invite you to make the calls on the field where they are most important. The dates for the 2015-2016 Referee Training courses will be on our website www.ayso862.org no later than July 30th and classes will begin in the last two weeks in August.

As a soccer organization, we try to keep our players competitive and growing in the sport of soccer by using surrounding recreational soccer programs to promote that growth.  Every year we invite several programs to play our game and we will continue to do so because I feel it is the best way to grow and be competitive for our players.

Due to events beyond our control, the soccer fields in a couple cities got changed at the very last minute and caused some confusion. We hope that we are set for a while and that nothing will change in the near future. We are currently seeking individual or companies that would be willing to donate or lease us property for our teams in each community so that we can be independent and have our own fields. If you are privy to this information please feel free to pass it on to me at 862regional.commissioner@gmail.com.

Again I would like to present my sincere apologies for the confusion and note that we will fix these issues in the upcoming season.

Best Regards,

Russel Melton
